checking whether we are using the GNU C++ compiler... yes
The base OS compiler on FreeBSD/ia64 11-current is
4.2.1 20070831 patched, however, these are also available:
gcc46
gcc-4.7.3
gcc48-4.8.3.s20140410
gcc49-4.9.1.s20140423
Clang/llvm does not build on ia64, as far as I understand
there's just no backend for ia64 anymore.
