On Jeskola Buzz on windows there is a nice system for categorisation
of plugins. Part of the program configuration is an index text-file,
which listed all the available plugins in menus and submenus. (Of
course unlisted plugins were automatically put in an "Unsorted" menu.)

I guess this doesn't address the issue of getting the information in
the first place - it means that someone has to manually put the
plugins into categories.

Another thought: doesn't one of the other LADSPA hosts (Hydrogen?)
provide a categorisation?
