Follow-up Comment #7, bug #60316 (project octave): I'm not sure how the code in comment #5 would effectively detect an integer overflow. I also cannot see where it sets the value of `r`. If I understand gnulib's stance on compiler warnings correctly, they usually don't try to pacify all of them. Unless, this warning really indicates an issue with the code. (I'm not sure if the issue could lead to a wrong result of the function.)
