Follow-up Comment #22, bug #55452 (project octave): The attached patch "bug55452_fopen_convert_stream.patch" moves the encoding conversion to after the formatting is done. The second patch "bug55452_fgetl_v2.diff" is the remainder of the previous patch from comment #14 that adds basic support for fgetl (and fgets).
