Follow-up Comment #19, bug #31305 (project octave): David, your help is much appreciated. I'm only knowledgeable enough to be dangerous. I've applied your patch (after pulling you changeset). I ran the demos for contour and contourf with no problems. I also tried "contour(rand(20))" and "contourf(rand(20))". the former works for both the gnuplot and fltk backends.
