yes - that's the part that takes the most thought.  (Checking and
making fixes to other people's patches doesn't take a lot of
concentration, since most of the problems are small/localized: fix
compiler warnings, misspellings, whitespace, try to run simple tests
that exercise the new functions, and test-build on platforms to check
portability).
