LYNX-DEV question about special character

Can anyone with appropriate fonts check for me to see if lynx 2.7.1
with 6/27 fotemods.zip displays ÿ appropriately?

It almost looks as if on my current setup (sparc, solaris 2.5.1, vt220,
screen  3.7.4), lynx 2.7.1, fotemods 6/27, ncurses) I am getting a \377
character generated.
