In all likelihood the reason no one has done anything about this before
is that those who are willing to dive into the code don't see the problem.
I know that _I_ don't see the problem on SunOS 5.x using ncurses 4.1 and
Solaris's xterm.  It's rather hard to do anything about problems if one
doesn't see the problem so that one can tell if the 'fix is in'...
