Only if you want to receive multicast and the MAC doesn't have a dedicated 
filter for that. In that case, you have to do the filtering yourself by 
checking all frames (in promiscuous mode). If you don't need multicasts or the 
MAC provides a filter for that, you can safely turn promiscuous mode off.
