help with quotes

I've just read the User's Guide, and it says that if I want a ", probably
what I want is the other kind of quote, but I don't know how to type them.
I'm using an english keyboard on linux. To edit my files I use vim.
I've checked everywhere else, but appartently it's not a common symbol. Is
there no way to use latex-style quotes: ``''? or something easier to
type...
