It is being stored as HA1. How do i disable it?

If you store the password as HA1, getPassword will return NULL.
To check if you are in this situation, open the linphonerc on your device (I guess it is Android):
$ adb shell run-as org.linphone cat files/.linphonerc

If in the [auth_info_x] section you have
password=<something>
then it is a bug, however if you have
ha1=<something>
then everything behaves as intented.

However, retrieving the username below works.

        
String username = LinphonePreferences.instance().getDefaultUsername();
