Out of curiosity, why not use the encoder from ffmpeg/avcodec to avoid
using two different libraries?

Both encode and decode functions are required, and are provided by
different libraries.

msx264 provides the h264 encoder for linphone via a plugin to

ffmpeg/avcodec provides the decoder, via built in mediastreamer2

You need both parts to be present to support h264 video calls.
Mediastreamer2 checks that both and encoder and decoder are available
for a particular "codec" type before enabling that type.
