A "boost" is helping someone -- literally, helping somebody get
higher. It could be lifting a child so that he can reach a tree
branch to start climbing; giving a small stool to a child so that
he can reach the kitchen counter; also, car seats for very young
children are (or at least were) called "booster seats".
A "blast" is an explosion.
So "ego blast" sounds like a magical spell in a role-playing game
that causes mental damage to your enemies; an "ego boost" is an
uplifting feeling that you provide to your allies. Don't confuse
the two. Since young children are fairly week, using an "ego
blast" on a kid could kill it.
