If you are patient, I am looking into developping a utility that will process midi files so that they convert more cleanly. I think there is a sort of consistency in the file structure that lilypond is looking for in the midi file format, and once it is clear, it should be much simpler to take just about any decently constructed MIDI file through the utility, answer a few questions about key signature, etc., and then do as a clean a convert to ly format as possible.
I will be testing this utility on files of increasing complexity, so if you could send me the file you need converted that you think is simplest, I will get back to you when I have success.
