It's irritating that the regression was quite thoroughly highlighted by  
James in comment #10.

Judging the state of this change (regression or improvement?  Intentional?)  
is neither the job of him as the Patchy runner, nor is it really that of  
Colin as Patch meister.  This is something to be evaluated by reviewers,  
with their work made easier by the preparation of, in this case, James and  
Colin.  There were no comments on review, it quietly went into countdown  
and was ultimately committed.  It was discussed only once 2.15.42 was  
checked for visual differences to 2.15.41, and there was considerable  
agreement in the discussion that this was a regression.

Be mindful, when invention fails,
To scratch your head, and bite your nails.

And that appears to be called for here.
