I agree. It's always obvious when an API is designed by committee,
and the result is always a mess. IMNSHO we should trash gnulib and
cygwin, and write the portability layer the other way around so that
applications can use the Microsoft APIs, and anyone forced to work in
a POSIX environment can recompile the resulting cleaner POSIX free
application code through a .net -> posix translation layer.
