I am not in favour of Steam. It is a proprietary platform on which you
can play mostly proprietary games. This is clearly not the solution to
the problem you are describing. What we need is more *free* game
developers, and more *free* games! I.e. games with free software, free
art and free data in general.

This is the core issue. Give us the money to pay our bills, and we
will quit our studies and day jobs to make games. That is after all
the free game developer dream.

Unfortunately, for a lot of game types there are no currently viable
solutions to making money. (Games that function as SAAS have an
advantage here, but that doesn't mean their roads are necessarily
paved with opportunity and void of hardship.)

So, how do we make money? I do not precisely know at the moment.
However, I do know that the solution lies within *our* community; not
via an anti-social proprietary platform such as Steam.
