Try changing bash under jail. Look "Bash as shell in the jail" at http://olivier.sessink.nl/jailkit/howtos_chroot_shell.html

vi /home/testchroot/etc/passwd


And test again...

The path at the end seems strange.  The permission look the same as on
the OpenBSD box.
