Deltatexts format

If I look at a RCS file, I find in the "description" part first the latest
version of the file, and then all deltatexts. My question is about
descriptors like "d16 1" or "a8 1", which appear in my text(example below).
What do they stand for? Are the digits the line numbers, or what?
I'd be glad to get behind this problem.
