In Octave, plotting is done with with a separate program, gnuplot. While
many of the plot commands are the same, the order of the commands differs.
Try placing the plot command after the title, xlabel, etc. If you still have
problems, try setting automatic_replot=0.
Also, for help on your other problems, please state which version of octave
that you have installed, and whether you are also using octave-forge.
