I don't know about SuSe, but most GNU/Linux distributions have two sets
of libraries: the usual user libraries (e.g. readline) and the developer
libraries (e.g. readline-dev). You might want to check whether SuSe has
a libreadline-dev package and, if so, make sure that you have it installed.
Is there any particular reason that you are trying to build version
2.1.47? The recommended version is 2.1.57:
