User-agent: Gnus/5.13 (Gnus v5.13) Emacs/23.2 (gnu/linux)

I'm running Debian squeeze with mutt and exim4.

Outgoing messages fail because outgoing address is garbled. For example:

A message that you sent could not be delivered to one or more of its

recipients. This is a permanent error. The following address(es) failed:

      Unrouteable address

------ This is a copy of the message, including all the headers. ------

  Return-path: <address@hidden>
Received: from haines by with local (Exim
        (envelope-from <address@hidden>)
        id 1SNNMt-0007qx-5M
        for address@hidden; Thu, 26 Apr 2012 08:00:15 -0400

  To: address@hidden

Here the recipient's adress is prepended to my domain name.

The exim4/mainlog not informative:

I believe the MX records are OK:

  $ dig -t mx

  ; <<>> DiG 9.7.3 <<>> -t mx
  ;; global options: +cmd
  ;; Got answer:
;; ->>HEADER<<- opcode: QUERY, status: NOERROR, id: 16655
;; flags: qr rd ra; QUERY: 1, ANSWER: 1, AUTHORITY: 0, ADDITIONAL: 0

  ; IN MX

  ;; ANSWER SECTION: 86400 IN MX 10

  ;; Query time: 122 msec
  ;; SERVER:

  ;; MSG SIZE rcvd: 80

In Exim4 configuration I have:

System mail name:
IP address or host name of the outgoing smarthost:
Hide local mail name in outgoing: yes
Visible domainname for local users:
