Say

  .nr .sss-orig \n[.sss]
  .ss \n[.ss] 0

  ...
  your text
  ...

  .ss \n[.ss] \n[.sss-orig]

if you want to retain the original \n[.sss] value.  Otherwise, simply
use

  .ss \n[.ss] 0
