Looks like you forgot the clean before building (cached).

Please clean do "scons --clean" before rebuilding, and then send that output.

 

I should note that gpsd is “my first rodeo” with scons. 

 

At any rate, Tried scons –clean (previously had tried scons -c for the same purpose and thought perhaps –clean would be different).  However the output still contained "Checking if compiler accepts -pthread... (cached) no".

 

Then I saw this little tidbit in the output...

You must manually remove .sconsign.dblite

 

So I did.  Clean output.  One little victory.  Not sure where the FAQ or Wiki is, but I would be pleased to add that one where appropriate.

 

The output was no better, though that is probably as expected:

The cp210x not the best, but usually OK.

 

I’ll take that as good news.  Unfortunately, while I have a clean compile (with timeservice turned on no less), it appears the device is not cooperating.  It feels like some kind of kernel issue, though everything appears to be in place.  And I am unfortunately back to asking for which tree to bark up K.
