I think this is something different here. It looks like topological
problem to me. Just imagine that the board wouldn't end at the left of
the 'A'-column, and white stones at Z5, Z6 and Z7. Then it depends on
whether there is or could be a black stone at Z4.

I think a good way to start would be: try to systematically look for
cases where the eye space analysis goes wrong for big eyes with
hostile stones inside.
You have hit an important and interesting problem here, I think.
