The problem is that we need to mix them. It is very
common that Asian text will be interspersed with
Western text. Certainly if I am doing some kind of
professional or desktop publishing, I can switch
fonts within a string of text (though that doesn't
always look right). But for more mundane uses, it
is impractical to be able to use more than one font
in a line text. Maybe those who are reading Asian
text don't care what the Western characters look
like (heck they are monospaced by nature as it is),
and so this really is a non-issue.
