Unfortunately your last commit breaks true-type hinting
in certain cases (see attached picture).

It also introduces two new issues:
/var/tmp/freetype2/src/cff/cffgload.c:999:37: runtime error: left shift of 255 
by 24 places cannot be represented in type 'int'
/var/tmp/freetype2/src/cff/cf2intrp.c:1461:63: runtime error: left shift of 255 
by 24 places cannot be represented in type 'FT_Fast' (aka 'int')
