Oh, I'm sorry. I uploaded a tarball with improved configure at

  http://home.hiroshima-u.ac.jp/mpsuzuki/freetype2-20091126_macslfix.tar.gz  

  * it digs "freetype2" directory. please be careful not
  * to overwrite your existing "freetype2" directory.

Please test it.
