Referring to the X.org libXfont patch, David asked:

It hasn't been integrated yet, but the bug report for it at X.org is at
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=6918, where James placed
his updated patch. He indicates there that some (but not all) glyphs get
lost.
