Log message:
* pkg-config is now no longer strictly required to build
* pkg-config not finding xft.pc is no longer an excuse for aborting
./configure
* Building ALSA PCM drivers now depends on more recent ALSA versions,
avoiding compile-time failures

I'm hoping that this will improve portability back to the level it was at
for 0.3.4a, plus everything gained by using pkg-config where available.
