Oh it is me again, I am having trouble applying the patch to by gnustep-back using the link found below.
the command I used was patch -p0 < gnustep-back-art-freetype213-0.8.5.patch
but I get an error.

patch -p0 < /home/catherine/gnustep-back-art-freetype213-0.8.5.patch
can't find file to patch at input line 4
Perhaps you used the wrong -p or --strip option?
The text leading up to this was:
--------------------------
|diff -ur gnustep-back-0.8.5-orig/Source/art/ftfont.m gnustep-back-0.8.5/Source/art/ftfont.m |--- gnustep-back-0.8.5-orig/Source/art/ftfont.m Mon Feb 10 10:46:06 2003
|+++ gnustep-back-0.8.5/Source/art/ftfont.m     Sun Apr 20 00:48:51 2003
--------------------------
File to patch:

To compile gnustep-back with an installed freetype-2.1.4, get the patch
from

http://www.nbtsc.org/~aredridel/permalink/gnustep-back-art-freetype213-0.8.5.patch

and apply it to .../back/Source/art/ftfont.m
Though it's labeled "freetype213" it also works with 2.1.4.
