as far as I know is @"<string>" only valid for plain ASCII Strings and not for Umlauts.
This is correct. Usually, only 7 bit chars are safe to use in constant strings build from source code.
The only bullet-proof way I found somethiong like this: [[[NSString alloc] initWithUTF8String: "H\303\266schler"] autorelease] ...where 303 266 are the ocal codes for the unicode encoding of "ö" (dec 246). Gruß :-) Dirk
