I share your sentiment about the labeling.

Perhaps someone on the list (you?) would like to start by documenting
the typical command line options somewhere in the wiki?  

Like the rest of life, the reality of free software projects is that
nothing gets done unless somebody does it.  Said another way, it's a
volunteer community effort.  Since you care, and now have the
relevant answers at hand, perhaps you could contribute 10 or 15
minutes of effort to the wiki?
