Music typesetting has many conventions, often not consciously known
about even to those who are very familiar with reading music. The
strength of Denemo is that it uses the LilyPond typesetter which often
means the user gets the correct thing without knowing about it.
In this case, using Upbeat for the first bar then means the bars are
numbered in accordance with established music typesetting practice.

However, it is a bug that when you invoke Check Score on a score with an
incomplete first bar you aren't told what to do about it. I've posted a
bug report for that too now.

I noticed something strange in your piece, where a syllable is spread
over three notes with a slur followed by a tie. There was a bug in
Denemo's display of this situation prior to 2.0.14. I see you have
entered a "~" character - I think that is a lyric tie - which looks
wrong to me (I'm not an expert on lyrics conventions). Also in bar 3 you
adopt a different slur length than in bar 5 - this is one case where
LilyPond doesn't force one or the other, I'm not sure if there is a
strict convention for that.

Thank you for your encouragement!

Richard
