No. dvd+rw-format did never work. I did use grwoisofs which formats with 768MB spare area or no spare with the -use-the-force-luke=spare:none option.

The patch did not change anything, so likely this branch had not been executed.

Thank you for the helpful xorriso "for_backup" information.

I really think about buying a new BD burner. My current drive is from December 2010. It writes data correctly but I'm concerned regarding the ignored spare area command and the seemingly not working defect management. Currently the desired drive is not in stock, I'll order it when it's available.
