Great, I created a branch removexpm [1] which gets rid of all xpm calls.
Let me know if this would work and I'll push it to master

Tim: I also removed zic2xpm from git, which I guess is not that usefull
anymore anyway?

Probably should convert them to png. I don't have time for that right
now though, but I'll look into it at one point.

We still need to package them though, so that they are in the tar-ball
and can get installed into the right place at one point.
