Sorry, I was wrong. These are definitely out of date. Unfortunately,
`dist-info' rule generated by automake does this:

      for file in $d/tar.info*; do
        # copy file to destdir

so any file whose name matches 'tar.info*' gets into distribution.

I'll remove these files.
