Hi Paul, Joerg, and others,
An update on my cache directory tagging proposal - since several other
developers on other projects also expressed concern about the tag file name
compatibility issue, I've renamed it "CACHEDIR.TAG" to be compatible with
both old POSIX and old MS-DOS file systems. Does this sufficiently address
your concerns? If I re-submit my tar patch updated according to the new
version of the proposal, would you (and the other GNU tar maintainers) be
willing to incorporate it?
Also, Joerg - would you be willing to add this tag filename to your list of
magic directory-exclusion filenames like ".exclude" and ".mirror" that "star"
can recognize via the handy -FFF (or whatever it was) option?
Again, for reference, the tagging proposal is here:
http://www.brynosaurus.com/cachedir/
FYI, the Mozilla and OpenOffice folks definitely intend to support the
proposal now, and two other more minor caching apps already have support
checked in.
Thanks!
Bryan
