Find rec-mode does not work in emacs v. 26 or 25

Tried emacs rec-mode in the following configurations with the breakage listed.

GNU Emacs 25.2.2 on Ubuntu 18.04.5 LTS

Package: recutils   Version: 1.7-2

Record navigation command "n" fails with error "Wrong number of arguments: setq, 1"

GNU Emacs 26.3 on Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS

Package: recutils   Version: 1.8-1

Field edit command "e" fails with error "Symbol’s value as variable is void: res-type"

Is rec-mode still a working package?
