cmake compounds the problems in automake and in the long run might be even
worse. meson is quite sweet - a small paradigm shift, and my efforts at
porting significant packages have worked out well.
PS: when people diss autotools -- and I am the first one to do so -- they
should remember that it performs remarkably well in one area: longevity. I am
able to build projects from the 1990s with virtually no changes thanks to
autotools's stability. Still, I am starting to migrate things to meson.
