how can i grub a new OS

Hello,sir.I am Joren, a student from PKU in China. These days I wanna to
write a new mini-OS for learning the linux OS. Well, I have a problem, I
don't have a floppy-device, and I have tried to use the removable-device
USBDisk to run the OS, but it failed. So I want to get this OS run by
GNU-GRUB. But I don't know how to write the grub.conf and the necessary
program? or what articles or documetations should I to  study?

I would appriciate if you could take to time to answer me and give the
guide.

OK, I have see the grub man-pages, but I don't think i had got the right
grub internal-parts.
