It really depends. For someone who works (almost) exclusively with GNU
grep, I agree. But for someone who writes scripts to be portable across
Unixes, or someone who typically uses Unix grep, the separation between
POSIX and GNU extensions will provide convenience and save time.

I use both, UNIX and GNU greps, and I find the separation useful.
