FSF doesn't recommend mplayer because it suggests installation of non
free software.

They recommend vlc instead.

Hey,
I didn't say the things above to you, you changed my email. I didn't say that
I could not see youtube. I "CAN" see youtube. I recommend ffmpeg that is the
engine for mplayer, xine and vlc. It just happens to
be a mplayer project. It also is capable of flash version 9. I suppose if it is
flash support you want in icecat the reason your pushing gnash is it is a GNU
project. However it is coded in C++ and the flash engine for gnash was
mplayer's ffmpeg ( ffmpeg is coded in C-Language ) but gnash changed things (
so they say ) and gnash has more library depends. I have been talking with
Stallman about using ffmpeg. I also talked with the lead (Rob) of gnash some
time ago and he said he would be willing to make a binary available for icecat
after they realeased. And they have released
some time ago so in fact, so now might be a good time to ask again ( arc you
might ask Rob if you want ). Whether it will be a xpi I don't know you will
have to ask him ( Rob ). But basically what I was saying is that you could
embed ffmpeg and have a downloader handle the flv flash files and that could be
passed to ffmpeg from icecat. Personally I think the lack of flash can be a
plus, less to debug in icecast. Let the audio, video and youtube type apps
handle it, and pass it on to them. They are linked for it and can handle the
dependences. Of course you could use a deb file and let gNewSense handle the
install and that would be the most correct way to handle it. I am sure Rob will
tell you that too.
Take care and thanks for the heads up arc,
Rod Ross
