Yes, I think that's necessary. I don't think all the branding files can
simply be removed. Those icons and such are actually used in the
running software.
In addition I have to find a way on how handle the patch-ia, I think
it will be a problem in future to maintain it in this way.
Indeed, we clearly need to be able to incrementally work on the
problematic files, in a slow-and-steady-process kind of way.
My thought is to maintain a script (in our cvs) which operates on an
original mozilla tree. It would remove the nonfree files which we
identify, and replace the seamonkey/mozilla/firefox/... branding files
with iceape/gnuzilla/iceweasel/... files where we have them. The new
iceape files which are copied in could/should be checked into our cvs
tree. Wdyt?
Until and unless the git setup is done, which I don't guess will happen
until Alexander comes back from vacation, at best.
