How to develop /usr/share/misc/airport.gz

I looked for the airport code for London Heathrow in this file, and to
my surprise, this very major airport is not listed there. You also
don't have Kastrup (Copenhagen) and Schiphol (Amsterdam) which are
probably the two most major airports of Northern Europe (whereas you
do list Stockholm Arlanda).

I have found a few sources for more information about airports in the
world. The most promising seems to be http://www.azworldairports.com/
but it is unclear how they are to react if their database is copied
and distributed for free. Still, they have some useful additional
information such as latitude/longitude coordinates and some fun other
stats which I think would be useful to include in this sort of
listing.

Do you have any particular advice for how to proceed with this, if I
were to volunteer to spend an afternoon or so on updating this
information from publicly available sources?

(I have miscfiles 1.2 on my system, but I had a peek in the 1.3
tarball and it seems to hold the same information in this particular
file.)
