Hi,
I wonder if its possible to translate .desktop files using gettext. I
know its possible to use intltool for this but Id prefer not to add
another dependency.
Any idea about this?
I had a look at the specification:
http://standards.freedesktop.org/desktop-entry-spec/latest/index.html
it states how the localized values for keys are handled:
http://standards.freedesktop.org/desktop-entry-spec/latest/ar01s04.html
This applies only to keys that are of type localestring, listed here:
http://standards.freedesktop.org/desktop-entry-spec/latest/ar01s05.html
namely: Name, GenericName, Comment, Icon, Keywords keys are of type
localestring.
So I guess what you'd need is a gettext module that would list genuine
values of these keys, allowing translator to append [LOCALE] to key names
in concern and enter the value corresponding to that locale.
Unfortunately I'm not a perl coder...
