Hi.
I suspect that you are encountering a locale issue. Gawk became more
locale aware, particularly for multibyte locales, during the time
those versions were developed.
Both of them are quite old; 3.1.5 is from 2005 (!) and 3.1.7 is from 2009.
The current version is 4.1.1.
If you try running on the new server with
export LC_ALL=C
does that fix your problem?
