I am assuming you are talking about this bug:

  http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=176201

This has been fixed in the current CVS by the new maintainer. The
next release will contain this fix. The new releases by the new
maintainer just recently started. See this announcement for
information on the latest findutils release.

  http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/bug-findutils/2004-10/msg00042.html

In the NEWS file:

  * Major changes in release 4.2.0
  ** Functionality Changes
*** xargs now works better when the environment variables are very extensive.
The xargs command used to run into difficulties if the environment
data contained more than 2480 bytes.
