In order to update from Xiphos 3.0.1 to 3.1, I followed the instructions on https://edge.launchpad.net/~pkgcrosswire/+archive/ppa.
I now have in Synpatics/Settings/Repositories, both entered and enabled.
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/pkgcrosswire/ppa/ubuntu hardy main deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/pkgcrosswire/ppa/ubuntu hardy main
I could upgrade Xiphos from 3.01 to 3.1 by this, it worked.
On the bottom of the page on https://edge.launchpad.net/~pkgcrosswire/+archive/ppa there is also
