Are there reasons why people with the old version would not be able to upgrade? NAG numerical stuff, maybe?

I haven't the willing neither the possibility to support this.
Well, it seems that TeXmacs wants specific control characters, right? And that means you patched Axiom to have a TeXmacs mode where it emits those, right? So without patching the source, you can't really do this, right? It seems like an iffy business, and I would tend to agree it's not worth the trouble.
